"DID YOU KNOW Beatrice Cottages in Mbare Harare is named after Beatrice Borrow the sister of Lieutenant Henry J. Borrow a member of the Pioneer Column. The Beatrice Cottages were initially built by the colonial government of Rhodesia in the 1920s. The cottages were constructed as housing facilities for white railway workers. However in the 1940s the complex was repurposed to accommodate black workers who were employed in the railways and other related industries. The targeted beneficiaries were the black workers who were previously subject to poor living conditions in overcrowded townships."

"DID YOU KNOW Chirundu is the only town on the Zambezi where two bridges cross the river. The first Chirundu Bridge is the Otto Beit Bridge named after Otto Beit(1865-1930) built in 1938-9 by Dorman Long and financed by the Beit Trust which funded most of central and southern Africa's colonial era bridges including the Beit Bridge across the Limpopo River. The Otto Beit Bridge was the first modern suspension bridge outside the United States built with parallel wire cables. It has a span of XXX m (main span XXX m). "DID YOU KNOW The Germans started their mineral exploration in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in the late 19th century around the 1890s. They were particularly interested in the country's gold resources. However the German exploration and mining activities in Southern Rhodesia were relatively short-lived. They were halted during World War I (1914-1918) when the British Empire which controlled the region declared war on Germany in 1914. The British Empire subsequently took over German colonies and possessions including German East Africa (present-day Tanzania) and German South-West Africa"

"A NEW SOURCE AND LENGTH FOR THE ZAMBEZI RIVER Historically the Zambezi River was believed to begin its journey at a spring near Mwinilunga in north western Zambia. However new research has discovered that the actual source of the river lies in a shallow depression in Angolas southern highlands at the source of a river called the Lungwebungu. This gives the Zambezi a new total length of 3421 km (2126 miles) or XXX km (213 miles) longer than previously thought. The research was carried out in 2022 and 2023 by The Wilderness Project in collaboration with the National Geographic Okavango"
