"Its not a religion but perhaps to be more specific about what I am saying it IS a faith claim to say there is no God. If you define atheism as absence of belief in a god without making claims about the existence of a creator/god then we are talking about different things. Maybe my understanding/definition of atheism is wrong but when I encounter atheists they almost always say flat out that there is no god. "My understanding is that the absence of either faith would be agnostic (this was me for many years) and/or yes there is something called non-theism which is distinct from atheism but I am poor at articulating the subtleties. Neo-Platanism is an example and I think so is Buddhism.
