"We remain optimistic that South Africa will have another excellent agricultural season in 2025-26. The farmers have started preparing the land in some regions in the eastern parts of the country. But will see more fieldwork from next month. Indeed there will likely be periods of higher rainfall as we head towards a weak La Nia which typically brings above normal rainfall. Still we assess that it will likely be favourable for crops. Remember the 2024-25 season we are ending was also a La Nia rainy summer season and we had an ample crop harvest. The only challenge we grapple with in South"

"South Africa exported 45044 tonnes of maize last week with about XX% going to Zimbabwe and the rest to other countries in the Southern African region. This placed South Africa's 2025-26 maize exports at 729690 tonnes out of the expected seasonal exports of XXXX million tonnes. The current marketing year only ends in April 2026. While South Africa has an ample harvest and will remain a net exporter of maize minor imports of yellow maize from Argentina are expected to continue for the coastal regions of South Africa. For example so far in the 2025-26 marketing year South Africa has imported"

"This is an update from the post I made last weekend. I may regularly comment on this as we receive South Africas grain trade data weekly. October XX marked the second week of the new 2025-26 marketing year. The imports to date have totalled 92705 tonnes from the United States Australia Lithuania and Poland. The United States was the new addition this marketing year while the rest of the countries were the primary suppliers in the first week of the 2025-26 marketing year. The year ends in September 2026. We expect South Africas 2025-26 wheat imports to reach XXXX million tonnes down from 1.83"

"As we begin the 2025-26 summer season the evolving weather conditions will remain a central focus in South Africas agriculture. We are in another year of La Nia a weather phenomenon that typically brings above-normal rainfall in much of the country and the Southern Africa region. The 2024-25 season was another La Nia season and with its heavy rains we experienced challenges in various areas of the country. Still the overall picture was positive. We managed to get an excellent fruit and vegetable harvest. The sugar cane production recovered and the grains and oilseeds production was also"
