From a Japanese community perspective I rarely see people using Cardano beyond staking. A big reason is that ADA staking has long been non-custodial and liquid (no lock-ups). So even when a dApps looks interesting anything that adds custody risk lock-ups too many steps or a deposit and pray vibe is a hard sell for many long-term holders in Japan.
