"What we want to build is to make it usable for normal people in the first place - using blockchain tech without being exposed to bad UX of using blockchain. Read the updated FAQ and then we can talk no need to try to apply "one solution to solve all problems" mentality here. We love Monero too. But it's not a good fit for the problems we need to solve. So we will do what we need to do to provide freedom privacy and security of communications to the users"

"What made EVM seem like a better option is zkEVM rollout with native support of zero-knowledge proofs. And we didn't "go with ETH" - we will be developing vouchers logic on L2 EVM network we don't really participate in "which crypto is better" wars we see blockchain as tech platform to solve our users' problems. While Bitcoin Cash also have contracts they seem less advanced less widely adopted but maybe you could explain technical benefits. We don't make political choices when choosing tech we choose what's best to the end users"

"ERC20 is a public specification for a smart contract API. What is implemented on top of it is not in scope of specification - it can be a freely tradable token or it can be a restricted community voucher system that we plan to build. And in any case we are not committed to ERC20 specification. It appears open simple flexible and widely supported. But if it doesn't work then it can be just a custom smart contract on EVM blockchain. Technology is neutral and ERC20 is technology - not what you think it is. It's what people do with it that matters. Saying that ERC20 is bad because scammers use it"

Blockchain is a technology to get to network wide-consensus in a trustworthy and reliable way - there is no alternative. It can be public and private it can be secure and not it can be honest and fraudulent - it's people who make technology good or bad the tech itself is neutral. By saying "blockchain is bad because scammers use it" you are not different from people who say "privacy is bad because criminals use it""

"We have a Kraken account for the company. XMR is disabled there - can't buy it can't sell it. Possibly it depends on a jurisdiction. That's not the point. We can't use freely tradable currency for what we need to build. We need a network with smart contracts and zkEVM once it adds native support for ZK-proofs will be a good fit. We are going to use blockchain tech for problems where it fits and it's really the only way forward. So "we will see" is the only correct approach. "Before you jump to conclusion about what ERC20 is please read the spec: It's one of the earliest very simple and the most adopted specifications for EVM blockchains. It is also extensible and flexible and allows implementing any custom logic on top while still being compatible with wallets and other interfaces - which is very important for early stage adoption. How people used this spec is irrelevant - we are talking about using the technology in a way that benefits the users not about repeating all possible pathological use cases you are thinking about"

"We did study both. Lightning is not very usable unfortunately and makes privacy and security dependent on operators preserving them. Operator trust is exactly the model we always try to avoid. Cashu also makes trust to mints a dependency and does not protect from double spends if payment is made in the absence of network connections. But fundamentally we do not want to use any freely tradable cryptocurrency or token and ours will not be freely tradable - it will have restrictions both on transactions and on holding so it's not a traditional cryptocurrency or token. You can use whatever"

"Of course not. The model we are developing in a nutshell and simplifying a lot is this: X. Channels and community owners use fiat or crypto money to buy Community Vouchers (arcade tokens as you call them) from a smart contract. If they used any EVM tokens they will be locked in a smart contract and nobody will be able to use them at this point. For anything else it requires bridges and some point of trust so starting from EVM makes more sense. X. Channel owners then use these Community Vouchers to pay for server capacity to any operators participating in messaging network. X. Server owners"

"The point is not "which crypto". The point is making restricted tokens with utility usages only as @ofrnxmr called them - arcade tokens. In a way that's exactly what we are building: tokens that are only good for one purpose only - paying for servers capacity namespace and anything else related to functioning messaging network. Read FAQ: So nothing is wrong with Monero specifically other that it's not having smart contracts. We're only interested in zkEVM as in foundation for custom programming logic not as a currency. And Monero simply doesn't solve any of these problems"
X Link @SimpleXChat 2025-10-29T16:45Z 15.1K followers, XXX engagements
"Initially - only via smart contract on EVM chain by trading some freely tradable tokens in exchange for Community Vouchers - as @ofrnxmr called them "arcade tokens" which is a good analogy because they won't be usable other than for paying for server capacity. While you are indeed linking your identity to the fact that you do use SimpleX network at this point you would still be not showing how it is used and which communities or channels you are paying for because zk proofs are used at the point of accepting these vouchers. At a later point we will develop bridges - to fiat money to XMR to"

"The goal is to provide privacy and security to all people not only to darknet users. So while Monero can be one of payment options for Community Vouchers it cannot be the only option to pay for the servers. That would lock network in the niche. About half of our users dont use any cryptocurrencies at all and this part will only grow. So what we develop must work for them"

"Im not sure which planet you are on but thats what most people experience - financial transactions require KYC at some point or are heavily restricted. In EU/UK you cant buy Monero on most exchanges. So we cant have it as a hard dependency. It is very much similar to the conversations 2-3 years ago that we must embed Tor instead of developing private message routing. We didnt and we wont even though Tor is supported as an option. We have the same attitude to XMR - it must be supported as one of many options but it cannot be and wont be a hard dependency for the network - it must remain in"
