"Thinking back this week. Feb [--] [----] I was playing hooky from high school with several friends driving from Winnipeg to Fargo to see Buddy Holly Richie Valens & The Big Bopper. Early that morning as we were getting near the US border they announced that the plane had crashed and no one survived. We pulled over to the side of the road cried and turned around. A few years later I was in the band Chad Allan & The Reflections and we recorded our first record Tribute to Buddy Holly. Here's a bit of it live for you to hear. We later recorded Shakin All Over and our name was changed to The Guess Who."

"I first met Robbie Robertson at Le coq Dor in Toronto in [----] when The Guess Who was just taking off with Shakin All Over. He played so incredibly that I took the opportunity to ask him how. He said the secret was to buy a set of Gretsch Strings and put them on his Telecaster. So the extra [--] strings meant he strung a High E a B and then another B instead of the G. This allows you to bend them to play blues notes. It literally transformed my entire style of playing and stayed with me throughout my career. I was there playing shows with my first band The Guess Who & Joe Cocker. It was a frightening time everything closed. I made it to ground level and got a few supplies before the devastation hit.
