"You should read Better Money by Lawrence H White. The issue with Bitcoin being used as everyday money is its lack of elasticity. As GDP grows if it grows too much and the money supply lags too much behind it you start to see malignant deflation. Gold is a perfect monetary metal because as more is demanded we mine more.
