"DisCos have different Load Allocations because each DisCo asks for a certain amount of power based on: - How many customers they have and how much people actually use - How well they collect bill payments (places where people pay regularly can handle more power without going into debt) - The strength of the wires and equipment in their area (some regions have older or weaker lines that can't carry much) This whole system ties into something called MYTO (Multi-Year Tariff Order) set by NERC (our electricity regulator). "You cant compare the Telecom industry to the Power sector. Telecom companies operate in a free market where they can make money back quickly so investors are happy to pour cash in. Electricity (DISCOs) is completely different they are a branch in a broad value chain (GenCo TranCo DisCo etc). These companies are monopolies in their specific areas and the government (NERC) strictly controls what they can charge. They cant just raise prices or compete to make more money. The struggles we see with privatization arent just because the DISCOs are badly managed; its mostly because they are broke."

"Yes Nigerias power problem isnt really about generation alone. Even when available power rises to [--------] MW many DisCos cant take all of it. Old lines overloaded transformers and weak 33kV/11kV networks limit what they can safely distribute. On top of that DISCOs usually try to accept only the load they can afford to pay for. When the load offered is more than they can handle or fund they reject it to prevent local breakdowns. That rejection creates imbalances on the grid and if not managed quickly can add to system instability. Actual grid collapses are mostly triggered by transmission"

"THIS IS FOR SAFETY. When heavy rain is coming DisCos sometimes switch off supply on purpose. Water and live electricity dont mix. If rain gets into weak connections leaking transformers or exposed wires it can cause sparks fires or even electrocution. Its usually better to take the power off briefly than risk lives or damage that could keep an area in darkness for days. Another issue is the network itself. Most power lines in Nigeria are overhead hanging on poles across streets and neighbourhoods and a lot of them are old. When it rains water finds its way into cracked insulators rusty joints"
