For failover we have a system that seamlessly migrates your actor. You'll see a call to the onStart hook but the transition is seamless to the users. "nope there is a state restoration mechanism + some magic on WebSocket hibernation so WS can stay open while the actor sleeps/migrates. it's based on the virtual actor pattern: Rivet works in a similar way but we have a couple extra features to make the migration transparent to the user. DO requires a bit of extra work in the constructor to restore state. one big diff between Rivet and Cloudflare Cloudflare shuts off actors without warning or conntrol while Rivet gives you full control over your lifecycle sleeping and teardown phase i have a lot of thoughts on this approach vs firecracker"

"Rivet is focused on the TypeScript ecosystem at the moment (but we're built in Rust) for a couple reasons: - There is no popular actor lib for JS unlike Akka for Java Orleans for C# OTP for Erlang - JS is frequently deployed as serverless more than any other lang so we have a lot of specialized engineering for this We do plan to support other languages in the future (esp Go Rust Python) but that's too far out for me to speculate how we'll compare head-to-head.
