"Andrew Simms second in the Dunedin New Zealand mayoral contest makes the interest point in a Facebook post that if more of the voters who voted for Lee Vandervis had left a later preference vote for Simms in this STV voting system election then Simms would likely have come ahead of Sophie Barker and become the mayor. Vandervis voters were apparently actually being encouraged by Vandervis himself to just give one vote for mayor and no later preference votes.
