"Even here in Croatia you can't normally find lamb hogget or mutton in the supermarket and sheep husbandry keeps declining due to farmers abandoning traditional methods of animal husbandry. Lamb is more of a luxury meat usually reserved for spit roasts at parties. "What is the best livestock combo for self-sufficiency After much experimentation we've settled on sheep cattle chickens and bees. Four species seems to be about as much as we can manage if we want to become really good at raising all of them. We will probably add pigs in the future when we'll be producing enough organs bones and whey to feed them but we can't really justify increasing our system's complexity by adding anything else. "Having spent many years rocking the chubby-muscular look I can tell you being lean is MUCH better. For one you just feel better. Why would I waste my energy on constantly lugging 30+ extra pounds of useless fat around I'd rather be light and agile and have more endurance for my farmwork. And also I think it just looks better.
