"Perhaps contra argument is that e.g. $RIG drewdown XX% from 2023 peak & is still XX% drawndown after doubling from lows. All depends where you start from I remember that survey of buyside someone posted earlier in year where not a single respondent expected DRs to stay in $400k's. All $300k's - or even back to $200k's So perhaps the offshore driller stocks are really only at the level they 'should' have fallen to if current DRs are indeed around trough level And all we've done is recover from a huge overreaction to downside culminating in Trump Dump in April (Obvs I have no idea really 🙃)"

"$OIH $RIG $ODL.OL $NOL.OL $VAL $NE $SDRL I believe @BULLReturns is correct - and actually obviously so. It always seems this way at / after heavy cyclical lows. The question to ask yourself is what stock prices / market caps will these companies be trading at in an environment that forces newbuild drilling rig orders I have no idea on timing. But bookmark it - it's coming. It literally HAS to: the current - heavily rationalised & always depreciating / aging - fleet won't be enough for likely decades of rising oil consumption. Consider the huge narrative change that has already happened in the"

"$OIH $RIG $VAL $NE $SDRL We still remember you gave no warning of $BORR's troubles with SA and Pemex - that led to a larger drawdown and more dilution than ANY of the major offshore (floating) drillers. "Thanks. I like to try to consider how I would think / act from perspective of different players. I can't prove - but suspect - the scrapping of the additional X cold stacked rigs + equity raise were partly aimed to prove to operators that $RIG could (and would) hold out on contract terms. The interesting part of the offshore thesis is not just a cyclical recovery - but that supply vs. demand / competitive balance has shifted in favour of contractors through consolidation & rationalisation after a brutal almost decade long downturn (we're still some way from contract terms that justify the"

"Yes. I listened to your interview with @ragingbullcap that you shared link to - thanks. I picked up on a couple of things I would think about differently. Valuing $RIG's semi-subs lower than the UDW (drillships) is not the right way to think about their fleet. The 6th gen is latest generation of semi-subs. I think this causes confusion because people think they are older / less valuable than the 7G drillships. 6G semis is not same as 6G drillships. The way I think about it is Norway compliant 6th gen / high spec harsh environment semis should really be considered equivalent to the highest"

"$OIH $RIG $VAL $NE $SDRL $ODL.OL This is a good question from Ed. TL/DR: I think the upgrade cycle will merely delay / put the newbuild cycle off for a while. It might even mean the next newbuild cycle is for 9Gs But it also gives the lie to people talking about the replacement cost of 7Gs being relevant: dual BOPs 20k BOPs higher hookloads + various other behind the scenes tech improvements becoming standard requirements mean the costs of newbuilds will escalate even on top of inflation. There is NO WAY a newbuild order will be for an older spec floater. Why would you pay say $800m+ for a"
