The issue with average HR is that it hides all the detail. "Workout Wednesday By Boston standards this week has actually been warm so a balmy 22F for [--] x [---] @ HMP on the Castle Island strip. Took last week off speed work after a minor calf flare up so today was about control and honesty not heroics. Wind showed up for about half the reps and my HR chest strap briefly tried to convince me I was dying in the warmup. "When I first started cycling during the Covid days it was on a Peloton bike. Ive since moved to Zwift and learned why W/kg actually matters. Which is why Peloton ranking their leaderboards purely by raw watts is a joke. Its the cycling version of judging strength without bodyweight. Looks impressive. Means nothing for performance. "UPDATE: wasnt the magnesium. Havent touched it in [--] months and my HRV is still down. The real reason is training load. I started ramping up at the end of [----] and have steadily built to [--] to [--] hours per week in [----] compared to about [--] hours per week last year. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. UPDATE: Its only been a week since I stopped taking magnesium glycinate but early signs are promising. HRV is way up. Sleep feels better. I ran [--] miles yesterday and woke up with one of my best recovery scores in months. Maybe I wasnt overtrainedjust over-supplemented."

"This is spot on. The issue with average HR is that it hides all the detail. The first miles are artificially low shorter runs skew the number down and comparing between runners makes no sense when max HR varies so much person to person. Then you throw in workouts: an average pace might read 7:30/mi but if that included hard intervals the HR during those segments was way higher than what youd see on a steady 7:30/mi easy day. Same average completely different stress. Thats why context matters way more than the number on the watch. You see someone post a screenshot that says Average HR: 142"

"Saturday morning speed session: 121200m @ 4:13 avg (5:38/mi) w/ 1:45 rest. Skipped Workout Wednesday this week while sick so pushed the workout to today instead of a long run. Goal was GHMP but I came in a little quicker and felt smooth and controlled the whole way. Cambridge Half next weekend is the tune-up before CIM. My Boston tune-ups didnt go well earlier this year and Ive never really nailed the half distance so Im hoping to flip the script. Running around 5:50 pace would be a great sign heading into CIM"

"Totally agree with this. I think this unpopular opinion will keep getting more popular. Ive run four marathons. My first was Boston in [----]. It is incredibly well organized but still a huge production. My second was Sugarloaf up in Maine a small point-to-point race with around [---] runners through the mountains. My third was the Charles River Marathon a 2.6-mile loop you run ten times along the river in Boston with about [---] runners. Both were quiet simple and stress-free. Another underrated perk of smaller races is the earlier start time. Many begin around [--] a.m. which I love because you can"

"If I get into Berlin Im paying for both since Chicago charged upfront. Definitely a bit of a risk but thats how these lotteries work. "Over the past few years hes said in his YouTube videos that he was training for the Boston and New York City Marathons but never actually raced either. He wouldnt have been in the elite field but both are drug-tested events. Im a big fan of his just genuinely curious why those never happened could it be somewhat related I watched a video today on Nick Bares recent choice to stop weight training while he trains for his upcoming Ironman. Basically giving up the hybrid training style which he basically built his brand around basically the figure head of the model. Some people think that"
