South West Governors created Amotekun as a stop gap measure because state policing is not yet in place in Nigeria. Governor Seyi Makinde has been requesting that the FG grants licences for Oyo State to arm Amotekun properly but the FG has not granted this. They are only licenced to carry pump-action guns.
