"Globalstar implemented its own internal handset based PNT type system back in 1997. This was developed by Qualcomm so that a Globalstar user terminal could determine country boundaries for service availability. Iridium also had a similar system but preferred to pretend that the functionality was never available because it provided regulatory freedom to operate in countries that it was not authorized to operate in. "Iridium won't go for a bottom dollar price like Apple paid for almost all of GSAT's capacity. GSAT was desperate at the time. Easier for Iridium to file for half of the Big LEO S-Band. With deployed Global 8MHz x 8MHz and over XXX countries GMPCS licensed it would go for a "Premium". It would be a good acquisition for Amazon or even AST to nail down first priority Global MSS Rights. Apple is all over SpaceX DtC. They even created API's for developers to create low bandwidth versions of IOS apps. Not to mention the native Apple apps/IOS/Starlink that Apple itself has developed"

The "bedtime story" was told that you needed these massive XXX sq. Meter arrays for it to work. SpaceX has it working on a X sq. Meter array. What will AST position be when SpaceX introduces VOLTE Voice services and then higher speed Data services using the same X sq. Meter arrays ASTs solution due to lack of higher technology is to just make the array huge. That is one solution but at an overall cost that is 100s x more expensive to deploy"
