"10 years ago this morning Hurricane Patricia became the most violent storm humans have ever recorded on Earth. In the early dawn hours over the East Pacific that day she achieved her world record-shattering sustained winds of XXX MPH along with a core pressure of XXX MBAR making her the 2nd most intense tropical cyclone that we know of globally. Her 24-hour intensification from a Tropical Storm to a Category X ice saw on October 22-23rd (during which Patricias winds skyrocketed upwards by XXX MPH) is the fastest single day strengthening rate ever observed by the National Hurricane Center"

"Jamaica is very likely in serious danger. As of right now the NHC is forecasting that Melissa will either strike the island directly or slowly pass by to its south at CAT 4+ status. We are not talking hours. We are talking DAYS. Days of torrential rainfall. Days of Hurricane-force conditions. Unless Melissa radically deviates from the forecast track below this is what Jamaica is facing. 2-4 DAYS of relentless rain and wind from an exceptionally slow-moving monster Hurricane. A Hurricane that is about to tap into a near bottomless fuel tank of warm Caribbean seawater (warmth that will not only"

"The NHCs latest cone for Melissa is exactly what you dont want to see. It forecasts that the storm will clip or make a direct landfall on the western side of Jamaica with CAT X winds of XXX mph and gusts up to XXX mph. Moreover this scenario would implicate that Jamaica may get trapped under the Hurricanes central convective thunderstorm shield for XX consecutive hours potentially leading to extreme rainfall totals that are exacerbated by the islands mountainous terrain. As always the NHCs forecast can change quickly. Continue to monitor all official updates stockpile the necessary supplies"

"Severe flash flooding is now coursing through the Dominican Republic as seen in the video below. There are currently two components to Melissa: the main convective core that has resumed a X mph ESE motion and a large jellyfish of tropical thunderstorms to the east. It is this latter secondary blob of convection that has been dousing the coastal communities of the Dominican Republic particularly in the Santo Domingo area. The problem is if the blob continues drifting northward then this may only be the very beginning of the major flood threat for Hispaniola as a whole"

"Melissa is starting to strengthen. It is not rapid as the storm is still weak but we are now seeing the first meaningful pressure drops since she formed. XXX mbar and XX mph winds with the last NHC update. Her forecast remains a potential worst case scenario for Jamaica. A track that takes her close enough to the island to drench it with heavy rain for 3+ DAYS but also far away enough for her core to explosively intensify over the Caribbean Sea without being impeded by the islands terrain. Every small shift in the storms movement can drastically change her trajectory so well have to watch"

Other Cat 3+ storms like Ivan (2004) Dean (2007) and Beryl (2024) came close but did not make a direct landfall. The image on the bottom right is Melissas forecast.
