""We view children as capable and competent" - these words come out of every early childhood educators mouth - but do we really know what they mean This is not a dig at any educator who says it this is a reflection of what opportunities you may be taking away from children to be capable and competent. Those magic words are plastered in the EYLF although if we are taking away opportunities for children to do things for themselves to communicate their needs and to be attuned to their own bodies and boundaries - then we aren't truly embodying this practice. So many things can impact on a child's behaviour but if we aren't viewing the child with a "listening lens" then we could be missing important information.
