"As one who grew up in that era and actually paid rent for a while I can say you are XXX% correct. I graduated high school in 1980 and worked as a dishwasher in the Boston area for $3.25/hr which was either minimum wage or close to it. That came to about $XXX a month at XX hours but I was working 50-55 hours during that time so with OT it was closer to $900/mo. I moved into an apartment with a co-worker and split the rent of which my share was $XXX. I actually could have paid the entire $XXX rent with the money I was making but I was XX so I wanted extra money for my fun too That same Boston"

"@iAnonPatriot I worked at a Pizza joint in 1982-1983 and made $3.25/hr. I went to school learned some neat things and that rate has ballooned. If working at a Dunks is your idea of a career you have really low expectations"

"@coulterculture @reformedhg I used to do all of these tasks while working in fast food back in the '80's. Never was it anticipated nor requested that we received a tip for said tasks. It was called "going to work do the job and get paid". The wage: $3.25hr"
