I actually think it should be possible to own equity in other people, not just companies
Would make mentoring and apprenticeship more palatable, especially in an age of AI when it's so much harder for a rookie to get 'good enough' to compete with automation. . .
Sad to say but otherwise, in today's age, why do it? The person you help is apt to walk out the door as soon as they've learned enough, & may even then compete with you . . .
A lot of legal developments also make it unattractive to train people: (1) noncompetes unenforceable; (2) LambdaSchool style revenue-sharing education agreements unenforceable...
Obviously 'people equity' would need its own legal framework (e.g. should not be perpetual) but I don't think it should be completely illegal/taboo...
