Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai gave an interview after a 30-minute phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on July XX following the ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia in Malaysia.
He said the U.S. leader called to express admiration and congratulations, calling Thailand's actions courageous and saying Thailand had set an example in maintaining peace for the country. Trump praised what Thailand did as beneficial to both countries in this cooperation.
Phumtham said he thanked the United States for helping Thailand overcome this crisis. He confirmed their strategic partnership cooperation in problem-solving and praised President Trump for his role with both countries in fostering cooperation and peaceful problem resolution. French President Emmanuel Macron also praised Thailand for resolving this issue.
"The U.S. President said this would make the international community admire Thailand for stopping the violence and preventing further losses among Thai people, including beneficial operations. After this, we will begin discussing trade tariffs, which will benefit Thailand. The U.S. will do its best and take care of this matter as much as possible."
Phumtham also said President Trump expressed wanting to visit Thailand, as he admires the country and its many good cultural aspects. From the conversation, it seemed positive because the U.S. wants Thailand to play a role in creating peace in ASEAN, and all of ASEAN feels good about each other. #DonaldTrump #thailand
