The token distribution meta is fundamentally broken, and here's what I've learned:
The "free airdrop" meta is shifting. While Hyperliquid's airdrop was legendary, most projects can't replicate their success or support massive buybacks.
Everyone's trying to copy Hyperliquid's playbook without understanding why it worked:
• They had massive revenue to back buybacks • Could handle liquidity in-house • Had genuine product-market fit
Most projects today?
This is why we're seeing a shift to ICOs - at least it filters for conviction. When someone puts capital at risk, they're less likely to dump day X.
Truth is, airdrops alone don't build sustainable communities anymore. They create temporary hype and inevitable dumps.
Reality check? Most new tokens are seeing brutal drawdowns. The culture has shifted from diamond hands to quick sells.
Best token distributions should:
It's data-driven distribution that rewards: • Genuine users • Long term believers • Real contribution
Not: • Airdrop farmers • Token flippers • Engagement merchants
Until projects start optimizing for quality over quantity in distribution, we'll keep seeing the same death spiral:
Hype → Launch → Dump → Death
The future isn't just airdrops or just ICOs. It's about smart hybrid models that actually build sustainable communities.
What matters is getting tokens into the right hands. Whether that's through ICOs, airdrops, or something entirely new.
Time to evolve
