Also, go outside and try doing a stepover. A stepover is used to get away from a player, not to go in the same direction as the defender. The animation might shield the ball and give a slight speed boost, but that’s not how it works in real life.

I played in international competitions during the 2010–2017 era, when we actually had a football meta in some editions.
