Having roommates is a scourge with modern mores. All of the downsides and none of the benefits. Don’t think you’ll be sharing the costs of meals together, that cabbage a day past it’s prime is in the ROOMMATES side of the fridge and you mustn’t touch it to make a delicious soup.
You mustn’t dream of having your significant other for more than X seconds without an official form and adding them to the utilities.
What’s that? Your roommate is having a party and you just assumed you were invited? Heavens no! What kind of FREAK assumes they were invited to a party in their house without an invitation?!
Well maybe this isn’t a problem for you, because you’re chill and you don’t mind sharing food and toiletries and having a chill roommate is a blessing in a new city if they’re reasonable like you.
UNFORTUNATELY the only roommates you can find from craigies and fb marketplace that are willing to eat meals with you and live without a piece of tape delineating your half of the livingroom from theirs are CRAZY moochers who will take advantage of your cooking and cleaning and procurement of groceries without ever once returning the favor (they’re broke so even if they wanted to they couldn’t)
No…best to stick to the rigid rules, the clear delineation and separation within the shared living space. And then at that point you realize…what could be more clearly separated than your own structure? Your own private dwelling space.
That way you don’t have to worry about your stupid fucking roommate sneaking into your bedroom while you’re away to use the GOOD X ply toilet paper you’ve been hiding from them (they only ever by X ply sand paper that they harass you for looking at).
Best to just live alone
