The military is a perfect example of a public grocery system. Military families shop at prices far below what the market asks. Families pay 30-40% less than what we do. Some bases have both grocery and department store goods that also save military families a ton of money. How? These stores aren’t run with profit being the number one goal.

Zohran Mamdani is proposing public grocery stores in NYC to help reduce the costs of groceries. The military saved families XXX billion in 2023 with their commissary system. A similar system would work just fine in American cities.

Those who have followed me for a while now, know I support public ownership of anything that is an absolute necessity in life.

Our electric, gas, food, railways, airplanes, cable, internet, cell phone service, health insurance, auto and home insurance, prescription drugs etc.

The things we as humans have come to rely on as some form of necessity are the things private ownership continues to rape us with.

Mamdani’s idea is not unrealistic. The public has a much larger buying power than the military and Walmart allowing the public to make mass purchases at a cheaper scale. Cities already do this in some areas when you factor in school lunches and such. Organizing a community grocery chain just takes it to the next level.

Modeling a grocery store after Costco or Aldis is not hard with the right expertise. Many countries already had stores like this during the early 20th century. Hell, the Green Bay Packers are owned by Green Bay proving public ownership works.

The idea of taking corporations, stockholders, and CEOs out of profit makes so much sense. Public stores can profit, but those profits will more likely be reinvested into the store or its employees rather than into the pockets of the undeserved.

City ownership creates massive economies of scale which allow much more affordable opportunities. Mamdani is not a Socialist in this kind of thinking. He is a visionary who sees a solution to this massive theft of American dollars through artificially high prices.

America would do well to create large city economic zones all publicly funded to compete with or put corporations out of business. Why should we keep funding the rich when we can fund our own communities instead.
