This ACLU propaganda piece cites a typical collection of such studies:
The @ACLU article claims, "[m]ultiple studies have shown that providing gender-affirming care is life-saving by dramatically reducing depression and suicidal ideation."
So what studies does it cite?
Here they are:
This study is based on a survey:
"The 2015 US Transgender Survey (USTS) was conducted over a 1-month period in 2015 by the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE)."
This online survey was advertised on trans forums, meaning it self-selected against those who regretted trans procedures and left trans communities.
This study has XX subjects, and no controls:
"This study is a longitudinal evaluation of the effectiveness of gender-affirming hormones for improving psychological well-being and decreasing suicidality among transgender youth referred to a transgender health specialty clinic at a large Midwest children’s hospital. Method: Forty-seven youth (13.73–19.04 years; M = 16.59, SD = 1.19) who received gender-affirming hormones were assessed at least X times: before the start of treatment and at least X months after treatment"
It also doesn't evaluate the subjects' condition more than X months in the future. We need to know how confused teens who are set on this radical path are a decade afterwards, after puberty and their teenage years, and the study needs to have proper controls.
This study (original link is inaccessible due to an expired SSL certificate) had XX subjects, no controls, and is again, very short term:
"Of the first XX eligible candidates who received puberty suppression between 2000 and 2008, psychological functioning and gender dysphoria were assessed twice: at T0, when attending the gender identity clinic, before the start of GnRHa; and at T1, shortly before the start of cross‐sex hormone treatment."
The last one is a meta-study:
To give an example of the kind of study admitted into this meta-study, here's one:
"This is a prospective study that assessed XX individuals with GID by using the Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) at three different points of time: at presentation, after the start of hormonal treatment, and after sex reassignment surgery (SRS). "
No controls, very short term study.
As further evidence of the ideological capture of the establishment: the doctors and researchers treating and researching gender dysphoria call the surgical amputation of genitalia and breasts, "gender affirming surgery (GAS)".
The idea of a doctor trying to treat gender dysphoria while describing the delusion that the minor is under as their real gender, is the theatre of the absurd.
When seemingly the entire academic and medical establishment — including the ACLU, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry ( @AACAP ) and American Medical Association ( @AmerMedicalAssn ) — is prioritizing an ideological agenda over scientific truth, to the point of advocating mutilating children based on utter pseudoscience, the situation has become extremely disturbing.
Even back in 2004 - before the total capture of the scientific establishment by this cult - the methodologies of the studies cited by child mutilation advocates were absurdly poor:
