I think you correctly mapped out the phases and took the right analogy of early internet days!
There is too much lot of noice in early days, things get settled down with time. Same like btc early days was scam money now everyone wants to hold it.
There will be people of many opinions but that's should bother you, you should work on something where you can have impact and also work on what people perceive you as.
