#NETHERLAND: ICC CONVICTS YEKATOM & NGAÏSSONA FOR WAR CRIMES IN CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC The International Criminal Court (ICC) has convicted Alfred Yekatom and Patrice-Edouard Ngaïssona of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during the 2013–2014 conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR). The verdict was delivered by Trial Chamber V on XX July 2025. Yekatom, a former military commander and parliamentarian, was sentenced to XX years in prison, while Ngaïssona, a former football official and Anti-Balaka coordinator, received XX years. Time already served in detention will be deducted from their sentences. According to the court findings, the crimes were committed during coordinated Anti-Balaka attacks targeting Muslim civilians, particularly in Bangui, Bossangoa, and along the PK9-Mbaïki axis. The Chamber emphasized that while religion was instrumentalized during the conflict, the violence was rooted in political and ethnic power struggles, not religious doctrine.
