#ONStorm #ONwx THE HEAT IS BACK! 🥵

After a chillier few days across Southern Ontario, we’re heading straight back into sweltering conditions just in time for the weekend.

A multi-day heat event kicking off Thursday will see temperatures soar into the low to mid 30s across much of the region before even factoring in the humidex. With the humidity, it could feel closer to 40°C. Environment Canada has Issued heat warnings for portions of the GTA where the heat is expected to be most persistent and will reach heat warning criteria.

The hottest temperatures are expected in Deep Southwestern Ontario, the Golden Horseshoe and the Ottawa Valley, where daytime highs around 33-35°C are likely. That said, some shorter-range models are suggesting we could see temperatures overachieve, reaching as high as 36-38°C in parts of the GTA. If that happens, we could be flirting with record-breaking territory!

Friday and Saturday will offer a brief dip, with highs in the upper 20s. But the heat looks set to return by Sunday and Monday, with temperatures back into the low 30s.

Extreme heat can be dangerous, especially for young children, older adults, those with chronic health conditions and people without access to air conditioning. If you or someone you know falls into these categories, try to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water and take breaks in cool or shaded areas. Keep an eye on loved ones and neighbours to make sure they’re coping okay, and never leave children or pets in a hot car, even for a few minutes.

This round of heat will also be accompanied by a potentially strong severe weather threat on Thursday afternoon and evening as an intense squall line is expected to sweep through parts of Southern Ontario. We’ll have more details on that soon!
