Has anyone ever looked into the figures of how much the Home Office gives to Serco, Mears Group and Clearsprings Ready Homes?
These companies hold decade-long regional contracts covering the provision of asylum seeker accommodation.
Britannia Hotels acts as a subcontractor to these suppliers.
Over the last decade (2014–2024), Britannia Hotels has made over £150 million in PROFIT from asylum accommodation contract. (that's £15,000,000 per year, every year, for XX years).
In 2014, their annual profit was just £1.9 million. In 2015, their annual profit increased to £30 million which is when they became a major provider for government contracts.
Britannia Hotels owns or operates between XX and XX hotels across the UK.
The original estimated total value of Serco’s contracts for the two regions it covers (Midlands and East of England, and North West) was about £2.1 billion over XX years.
Due to increased asylum seeker numbers, the Home Office’s latest estimate of the total contract value for Serco alone has risen to approximately £5.5 billion for the 10-year period (2019–2029). This breaks down as around £3.5 billion for Midlands and East of England and £2.0 billion for the North West region
For the fiscal year 2024–25 specifically:
The Home Office spent an estimated £1.7 billion on all the Asylum Accommodation and Support Contracts (including Serco, Mears, Clearsprings).
Hotels account for about XX% of the total contract costs (around £1.3 billion of that £1.7 billion), with Serco managing a significant share of this via its regional contracts
That's £1,300,000,000 per year for hotel costs for Asylum seekers. That works out to £3,561,643 per DAY, EVERY DAY.
Is it a wonder that people get p!ssed off when the Gov says they need to cut spending and increase taxes to balance the books.
This money derives from tax receipts raised by the Government. AKA, the tax the Gov collects from you and I.
For context, that £1.3 billion each year would pay for XXXXXX nurses. Or at least XXXXXX extra police officers. Or XXXXXX extra GP's.
Yes, I am p!ssed off at the costs and I understand why people are also so p!issed off.
Shame the Government will just continue doing what they're doing.
