TL;DR — The Diana Rock and Its Possible Link to the Black Stone of Mecca Acts 19:35 mentions an “image that fell from heaven” worshipped in Ephesus—a sacred icon of Artemis/Diana, likely a meteorite (diopetes) enshrined in her temple.

The Temple of Artemis was one of the X Wonders of the Ancient World. After Christianity spread, pagan worship was banned and temples destroyed—but sacred relics and stones were often hidden, smuggled, or sold.

The Black Stone in Mecca, now embedded in the Kaaba, is also said to have "fallen from heaven" and was venerated by pagan Arabs long before Islam.

Pre-Islamic Mecca was home to many idols, including goddess figures like al-Lāt, linked to Diana/Artemis and the broader moon-goddess archetype.

The crescent moon and star, symbolic of Artemis/Diana, later became the icon of Islam—despite Islam’s claim to reject idolatry.

There's a high likelihood that a sacred idol or stone, possibly from Ephesus or another Greco-Roman pagan site, made its way to Mecca—potentially brought by Muhammad’s ancestors or uncle, such as Abu Talib.

This pagan artifact may have survived the Christianization of the Roman world, only to be repackaged under a new religious system, continuing its spiritual influence under the guise of monotheism.
