Dan Burn – XXX / Got himself booked for putting up some fight in was a lost cause by the time he really got going
(Right Centre Back) 🇨🇭 Fabian Schar – XXX / Nothing to note, part of a back four that wasn’t up to the task 🏴 Jamaal Lascelles – XXX / Nothing fantastic but looked surprisingly settled given the circumstances of the match and that he’d had over a year without any first team action.
(Right Back) 🏴 Kieran Trippier – XXX / Was involved on the right as you’d expect, showed some promising link up play with Murphy and Miley at times. 🇸🇪 Emil Krafth – XXX / Showed a bit of defensive understanding, as is always the case with Krafth, linked up a little with his international teammate Elanga, but probably not to the extent we would like to see with what a Tino Livramento could bring to Elanga’s game.
(Left Centre Mid) 🏴 Joe Wilock – XXX / Didn’t seem to develop any rhythm. Perhaps tried to find Osula when the best option may have been to recycle the ball. Perhaps recycled the ball when Osula was in space. Seemed to make the wrong decisions which costs us going forward. 🇮🇹 Sandro Tonali - XXX / Even when the team plays poor, Sandros shear quality shines through for all to see, careful in possession, playing intricate concise passes, just a shame his teammates couldn’t utilise the calmness he brought in a better fashion.
Centre Mid 🇧🇷 Bruno Guimarea – XXX / Played well-ish given the circumstances, the all-round fluidity being poor didn’t help Brunos case, nor did the defensive lacklustre, 🏴 Joe White – XXX / didn’t look too out of place, was comfortable-ish on the ball, but didn’t rectifythe problems we had as a team, yet that would be a tough ask for a more experience player so we can forgive him that.
Right Centre Mid 🏴 Lewis Miley – XXX / Not his nest games in black and white, shown glimpses. But its hard to get going when the whole team puts on a disjointed display like they did. 🇳🇴 Travis Hernes – XXX / Did the best he could have given the situation, part of a quartet of youthful eagerness that shown us something in the second half.
Left Wing 🏴 Harvey Barnes – XXX / was involved but lacked that distinct end product which we know he has in his locker 🏴 Anthony Gordon – XXX / Had some zest at times, but his head seemed to go down and appear at times lazy and not making the runs he should have been, much to the displeasure of the away fans.
Right Wing 🏴 Jacob Murphy – XXX / Had glimpses of what he offered last season, you could argue that a more clinical striker could have put away some of the chances he created. But at times didn’t quote do enough in positions of strength during our atcaks. 🇸🇪 Anthony Elanga – XXX / Shown sparks of pace and what he’s about. His first game with his new team and it showed. Not linking up quite as well as he could, yet that’s to be expected playing in amongst a heavily rotated squad.
Striker 🇩🇰 William Osula – XXX / Had his chance, was on the end of a few corners, put himself about but could quite get that all important goal when chances did come his way. Pressed well in the first half. 🏴 Sean Neave – XXX / Did as well as could be expected given the circumstances when he came on a lost cause by then with a deflated team and away support who had been humiliated and left with not much to sing about.
Summary 🤔
The intensity matched that of a training match. It was clear that all management was focusing on was gametime and minutes in legs, as I predicted before the game. I thought that there was still enough to bear fruit with that, but emission of key players that would have helped us today, such as both first team full backs, and X central midfielders, proved too much to overcome.
What was on show, as ever, was the fantastic show of support form no fewer that XXXXXX Geordies which was magnificent to see. I spoke to a lot of Celtic supporters after the game who were just full of praise for our fan base and support and quite rightly so. We just get it don’t we.
