On July 21, 2025, Oumaima Chouay, a Montreal woman who left Canada in 2014 to join ISIS, pleaded guilty to participating in terrorist activities. She admitted to marrying an ISIS fighter, raising children under their doctrine, living in ISIS-controlled territory, and promoting their propaganda. Her sentence? One day in jail and probation. The court called it "exceptional circumstances."
Now compare that to Tamara Lich, who helped organize a protest against government overreach. She's facing up to eight years in prison.
I spent XX years in law enforcement, including being on the ground during the G20 Summit in Toronto, a violent protest where I had car parts hurled at me and was at the scene where the first police car was set on fire.
I’ve seen violence. I've seen chaos. l've seen how the justice system works, or is supposed to work. I've never seen this level of discrepancy in how justice is administered.
