Japan's Democratic Party for the People does not like how a New York Times article lumped it together with Sanseito as one of "two new nationalist parties." This categorization might be because the DPP's June XX pamphlet pledged, “we will spend taxes paid by Japanese people on policies for Japanese people by reviewing excessive preferential treatment for foreigners"「外国人に対する過度な優遇を見直し、日本人が払った税金は日本人のための政策に使います」. It should be noted that this language was changed in July to “we will ensure the proper implementation of various systems applied to foreigners"「外国人に対して適用される諸制度の運用の適正化を行い」. The party also supported creating a law regulating land acquisition by foreign nationals (not a total ban on foreign people owning land). However, such views are held by many conservatives in Japan. During this election, the Democratic Party for the People primarily focused on an economic message of tax reform. I wouldn't categorize them as a "nationalist party." They are very different from Sanseito.
