Meta has no issue with these compensation rumors as they think it makes them look strong. "Wow, they have so much money to spend, they are unstoppable."
OpenAI has to no issue having the compensation rumors continue to move higher as it gives them cover if they see employee churn. Altman can simply say - they left for the money, not the mission.
Employees in question have no issue letting compensation rumors get carried away as they directly benefit.
Simply put, everyone in a position to talk has reason to let these compensation numbers get carried away as they benefit from higher numbers being passed around.
