Modern studies estimate the total biomass of all ants is about one-fifth (20%) of the total weight of all humans, not equal to it.
Earlier, rougher estimates did sometimes suggest the two were similar, which is why the myth spread, but better research shows humans now outweigh ants by a wide margin.
