From someone who ran a showcase program that helped develop multiple MLB players and high 1st round picks —- Here is how Spencer Jones fits IF Jones is in fact the real deal. 1st off he’s an elite defender in CF — many including the Yankees see his ceiling as eventually be able to post .750 to .800+ OPS and a Slug of .620 to .650 or more, if that assessment is valid then that means the Yankees can now reallocate money for pitching for several years.. Have a clear path to let Judge DH XXX games a year after G’s contract expires. As yet another core position is locked down by a homegrown low cost controllable everyday impactful player.
In the short term, gives them more leverage with Bellinger, and allows them to move Belli primarily to 1B next year and using him XX or XX times a year in RF for Judge to give him DH days. Gives them the option to NOT carry a traditional backup catcher who is NON pinch hitting factor and keep Rice as a backup catcher and part time 1B and part time DH, that is very valuable, because Jones has CF covered, no urgency for Belli to cover the OF and Rice does NOT need to be the starting 1B, which would be a major hit for the defense after Goldie this yr. Same with the continued development of Dominguez — again, another low cost controllable impact everyday player, which JD will be next year.
So many Yankees fans meltdown on Social Media about “Judge’s Window” — yet the fail to realize maybe it is more likely we’re entering a NEW better window, with the young core they have now and Jones and Lombardi Jr here very soon. And Judge a veteran impactful hitter providing cover for this young core, like the Veterans did for Bernie and the Core X when they took on a bigger role in XX — Not all, but many Fans fail to see the Yankees kinda did their own mini reset in 2016, and from that came Judge Gleyber, and Sanchez.. but that also began a mindset shift with Cash to start building rosters again with core everyday players being home grown, allowing for payroll flexibility to add pitching — unfortunately they didn’t really start acting on it until AFTER the Stanton trade, as they focused several of their 1st round picks on Volpe and Wells and then Jones as well a full allocation of International Signing Bonus Cash for Dominguez, another core everyday player that projected to move fast through their system..
And that is right NOW the trend and mindset of the Yankees, even Jazz, young and controllable middle infielder when he was acquired, they knew they would move him to 2B this yr and let Gleyber walk because they didn’t want to invest big $$ in him or his position with Lombard Jr already showing he’s elite last spring. — Recognize the pattern of what they’re doing.. and I think it points to NOT dealing Jones or Lombard Jr. #RepBX @Yankees @MaxMannis
