Let’s dive in:
🔥 Temperatures
If you’re along and east of the Continental Divide, expect 90s each afternoon and evening through next week. It’s also toasty out on the Western Slope. Naturally, it’ll cool as you climb in elevation. Elevation is your friend. 🏔️
⛈️ Storm chances
The details change day to day, so it’s important to check in with me each morning for forecast updates. I’ll also be nowcasting live throughout the afternoon and evening when things get spicy.
Today’s setup
• After XX AM: A few mountain storms bubble up with lightning and gusty winds being the main concerns.
• After X PM: Storm chances expand along I-25 from Cheyenne to the NM state line, and out across the Eastern Plains, including the western Nebrasky Pandyhandle.
• After 5–6 PM: Showers and storms increase into western Kansas.
These storms will be scattered, hit-or-miss, and terrain-favored early on: Cheyenne Ridge, Palmer Divide, and Raton Mesa, before likely organizing into clusters over the plains.
⚠️ Severe weather risk
• Greatest risk today is along and east of a Scottsbluff → Fort Morgan → Limon → La Junta line.
East of that line, we can’t rule out: • Damaging winds • Large hail • A brief tornado 🌪️
Farther west along the Front Range and I-25, storms will be outflow-dependent, whether or not you get one is like being in the right (or wrong) place at the right time.
🌀 Looking ahead
We’ll rinse and repeat this forecast again Sunday and into next week. But remember: the details will change daily, and the models struggle with rogue outflow boundaries.
