Can Newey's presence at Aston Martin get rid of this one Alonso trademark:
— Fernando Alonso's career in Formula X has been marked by a series of frustrated radio messages, often due to underperforming cars. Despite his success in 2006, Alonso has struggled to secure a third world title, with his last victory dating back to 2013 at the Spanish Grand Prix for Ferrari. Former F1 driver Jolyon Palmer believes that the involvement of Adrian Newey in designing the 2026 Aston Martin could change this narrative. Speaking on the F1 Nation podcast, Palmer remarked:
"How long have they waited to work together as well? The mutual respect there is through the roof, so I don't know if we'll necessarily get the same team radio messages coming back when there's an Adrian Newey-built car that's on the other end of it and a whole team galvanised to try and get back towards the front end."
— Palmer anticipates a strong partnership between Alonso and Newey, suggesting that their collaboration could lead to a more harmonious team environment. He further commented:
"I think the respect there is going to be immense."
— Aston Martin has faced challenges in the 2025 season, struggling to secure a top-five finish and currently sitting eighth in the Constructors' Championship.
— Despite a promising start in 2023 with Alonso securing six podiums in the first eight races, the team's performance has declined. However, the prospect of a Newey-designed car in 2026 offers hope for a resurgence.
