Check out the account of @Cyber_Trailer if you care to check up on how many times Waymo ends up stuck. The human and remote interventions are not well publicized, it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Some of my friends use Waymo in SF; they have all been stuck once, some multiple times. But some need to see the difference in scalability to realize what others knew early.
One person who is an expert in diverse sensor suite RoboTaxis (and the difficulty of training end to end neural networks with the required sensor resolution)? China’s Robin Li, a visionary founder of Baidu, an AI driven search company that has deployed more RoboTaxis on the road than most (Apollo). He has determined that their solution is not good enough. He has superior knowledge to most posters on X, and Wall Street analysts given his position developing and running RoboTaxi fleets. His turning on “founder mode” to call for an immediate pivot is telling.
