🤔 What's going off with transfers at Newcastle United?

The recent frustrations this summer got me thinking about transfers and what's going on. So here's me thinking 'out loud!'

To me we seemed to get linked to and scout a lot of players. Then every time we consider making an offer for a player, even pre-takeover for that matter, it always seems to come out in the press, very early days, that we are in discussions or close to finalising it etc. That seemingly alerts others and especially ‘the cartel 6’ who then always manage to swoop in and put in a big money offer on the table and beat us to the punch and I can't understand why or how they repeat this trick!?

Recent examples of this poetry in motion would include the Yoanne Wissa situation that came straight out in the press, this allowed Manchester United to up their offer for Bryan Mbeumo and that deal looks pretty much sealed - which means the Wissa signing now looks pretty much off as Brentford don't want to lose both! Another recent example of this is the ‘world famous’ Hugo Ekitike case, again being interested and putting an offer in gets out to the press so Liverpool come in with some shenanigans and a big money offer again and we miss out. Before that João Pedro, again it's leaked and Chelsea steam in and in X hours it's all done and dusted! I could go on sadly.

Why do we allow this? Why do we act and react so slow? Is there a rat or snitch in the camp who is leaking transfer talks to the press or is it just a smoke screen or agents or the naivety of an understaffed, unmanaged recruitment team who also have to run everything through the PIF? I don't know, but I do know we need to get a wiggle on because the competitive action will be upon us before we know it and the squad is arguably weaker still than last season with more fixtures to contend with! In Eddie we trust of course but he needs some help please!!!!!!!
