I think the Tornado Cash story is a story of arrogance and hubris:
There were SIX other illegal crypto mixers but they built it anyway.
Roman literally wore shirts with a washing machine and the words Tornado Cash to conferences.
@dragonfly_xyz should have clearly known this was illegal. But the legal team there signed off and funded this for $900k.
They started getting criminal, dark money deposited to the site/protocol pretty much right away but they continued.
Roman paid himself $39M in $TORN tokens.
They talked openly in chats about the crime happening on their site.
They absolutely could have taken the site offline, but they never did.
Roman secretly sold $12M in $TORN tokens and moved the money to his private account.
Then they played the victim when they were caught.
