OpenAI Chief Economist Ronnie Chatterji says the future belongs to those who master four key skills: critical thinking, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and financial numeracy.

As AI continues to reshape the workforce, Chatterji isn’t just thinking about policy—he’s thinking about how to prepare his own kids for what’s coming.

Speaking on an OpenAI podcast, he emphasized the need to identify and solve problems rather than just learning technical skills like coding, which AI is quickly absorbing.

His advice reflects broader concerns across the tech and finance worlds. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently warned that industries failing to adapt to AI risk major job losses.

Other experts, like LinkedIn’s Aneesh Raman and economist Craig Shapiro, have also noted that AI is already transforming entry-level work and weakening the impact of traditional economic tools.

Chatterji’s message is clear: while AI might take over routine tasks, human-centered skills will remain valuable.

Teaching the next generation how to think critically, understand emotions, and manage money isn’t just good parenting—it’s a survival strategy in the age of automation.
