$IREN Childress in HD pt2
As promised, here’s the latest high-definition satellite image from a sunny Childress. We’re in the hottest stretch of the year in Texas, and you can see it in the intense, reflective sunlight bouncing off the data centers and substations. The Horizon site is really starting to take shape. The six data center rows are clearly visible, each in different stages of foundation and structural development.
Zooming in further, the grading work in the area below the data centers strongly suggests that the Horizon project is being built in line with the original renderings. Since @IREN_Ltd confirmed Horizon X earlier this month, it’s no longer a secret that the company appears to be moving forward with the development of this data center.
That said, I don’t see clear signs of earthwork activity for Horizon X in this image—so for now, it looks like the focus remains primarily on Horizon X.
A few general observations from the image:
Primary Substation X (PS6) now has two transformers installed. Along with PS3, it’s one of only two substations currently featuring a redundant transformer (138kV–36.5kV). PS6 is expected to power Horizon X — and potentially Horizon X and X as well.
The first data center in Horizon X has its steel structure in place. The second is midway through pouring the concrete slab, while the third features the now-familiar green cable trench cover.
There’s currently no visible indication that additional Horizon buildings are under construction. However, the northern part of the site offers plenty of space for expansion, including the potential for liquid-cooled additions to Blocks 1–5.
Overall, the site looks clean and well-organized. Having visited just seven weeks ago, I’m impressed by how quickly things are moving. In less than two months, the once-empty area designated for Horizon X has transformed into a rapidly advancing data center project.
