Zillow is standing firm on its commitment to remote work, even as many companies push employees back into the office. CEO Jeremy Wacksman says the company’s work-from-home model, called “CloudHQ,” has been a major success since it launched in 2020.

Wacksman explained that the model fits Zillow’s size and workforce. He said virtual operations have helped the company attract stronger talent. Zillow now sees four times more job applicants per role compared to before the pandemic.

Along with boosting hiring, the company has also saved money. Zillow has cut its office space by XX percent, significantly reducing lease costs since adopting its remote-first approach.

This stance contrasts with the broader trend of return-to-office mandates, which many companies argue are necessary for productivity and culture. But some of those efforts have sparked backlash from employees.

In some cases, companies have pushed workers back into offices without even having enough desks. Zillow’s approach offers a clear alternative—one that prioritizes flexibility, access to talent, and reduced overhead.

For Wacksman, the results speak for themselves. Remote work isn’t just a convenience for Zillow. It’s a competitive edge.
