The Lexus GX XXX SE is exactly what you’d expect when Lexus decides to go off-roading while keeping things premium.
Packing a 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 pushing out XXX hp (260 kW) and XXX Nm, it’s got the grunt for towing and overtaking is a breeze, but don’t expect it to sip fuel lightly. The 3-ton SUV returned 14.8l/100km from JHB to Afriski in Lesotho and back.
On the road, the GX is extremely comfortable, and while tyre noise is present, it is not enough to distract from the rather refined cruising capability.
If you’re looking for a Defender alternative or a more polished take on the Prado, the GX delivers, but for those who actually plan on exploring further than a gravel road, we must assume the Overtrail remains the one to go for.
Still, the GX has a serious presence and that undeniable Lexus class that will certainly suit a bunch of buyers*.
Pricing starts at R1,801,500 for the Overtrail, while this SE model is R1,865,500.
