“it’s cheaper to eat junk food than real food” is one of the most confidently parroted lies in modern discourse
here, i did the math for you:
real groceries: $XXXXX = XXXXXX calories 1,282g protein 560g sugar cost per calorie: $XXXXXXX XX full meals (based on XXXXX kcal/day)
junk food: $XXXXX = XXXXXX calories 186g protein 1,290g sugar cost per calorie: $XXXXXXX X "meals"
so for roughly the same price: you get nearly double the meals 7x more protein half the sugar and food that actually sustains life
but yeah, tell me again how “poverty makes people choose Oreos”
no—inertia does. misinformation does. subsidized addiction does. it’s a culture that would rather medicate obesity than admit it has a self-control problem
poverty doesn’t make you stupid, but pretending junk food is cheaper sure does
just say what you really mean: real food is boring and doesn't make my dopamine go boom
