The Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) in China carried out its second test flight today of the prototype for its new trijet tailless diamond-delta wing military aircraft, dubbed the Chengdu J-36, which is claimed to be a sixth-generation stealth fighter, but is believed by aviation enthusiasts and western analysts to more than likely be some kind of regional bomber or fifth-generation strike-fighter aircraft. Today’s test flight, similar to the one in December of 2024, was conducted over the city of Chengdu in the Sichuan Province of Western China, but unlike last time, today the J-36 was seen alone in the sky over the city; additionally the landing gear on the aircraft was retracted during today’s flight, unlike in December. A photo of the aircraft taking off was also captured, showing the afterburners on the X WS-10C turbofan engines believed to power the J-36.
