The specimen was already cracked when found so the first step was careful stabilisation to make sure it could be safely prepped without losing detail. Once consolidated I moved on to removing the surrounding matrix. The rock was relatively soft and there was excellent separation between the fossil and the matrix which made this a fast and satisfying preparation. This follows on from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watchv=MddYeMOg4F0 I retrieve 9kg of sediment and dissolve it using sodium hexametaphosphate so I can use a sieve to retrieve the shark teeth.
