"Sitting here watching NFL tape & chuckling to myself because if EVERY throw that hit a defender in the hands was INTERCEPTED nearly every fan base in the league would be pissed at their QB weekly It is amazing how often it happens each week & amazing how the drops are never remembered as bad decisions but the INTs always are I never thought of myself so dependent on the defense in my life HaHa"

"Thinking more about this Offense vs Defense dichotomy in the NFL & it begins to come into focus As a QB that threw a lot of INTs still to this day I dont think its that big of a deal to & think ppl make too big a deal of them (bc most players make at least X BAD plays a game) bc I believe its that aggressiveness thats makes the great great But surely a defensive guy only sees them as a negative not taking into consideration the other side Im sure they loved when we got them a XX pt lead and they could attack and play free So I flip this to my mindset on the defense I used to hate when they"

"I always said & told my players when I coached the greatest blessing I had in that situation is that my resume was not going to be written based on how many HS football games we won so I was free to simply coach the kids help them get better learn the game prepare the ones who wanted to play on by doing things they needed to do (even if it wasnt most advantageous to win a game) etc It was a joy bc I never had knee jerk reactions to bad moments or games bc it was all about growing as ppl and players I wish everyone had that luxury or took more of that approach just wonder if it has died with"

"Here are two ideas for content that I think EVERY team or somebody should create (even if it might be a tough conversation at times): 1) They should hire a reputable former QB & have them breakdown their teams tape every week to show ppl whats really going on - GOOD or BAD 2) A former QB to breakdown EVERY INT their QB throws Again no team would bc there would be some bad in there - but it would give a consistent look at things & on the INTs ppl would get to see all that goes into them & not just that the QB was bad (albeit sometimes they surely would be) bc may have multiple facets to them"

"A passion of mine is to want to teach the game of football: to QBs & Coaches if needed & to all the great fans that truly have the desire to understand it Just got done talking with #BoNix & he mentioned one of the best things about #SeanPayton the OC is how EVERY detail matters The EXACT split the EXACT release the EXACT spacing the EXACT timing etc too many ppl think plays are plays when its so far from the truth the difference between the same play being great for one team over another is the details & I watch this play out weekly If you are a QB or Coach & you dont understand those"

"Sorry its my Monday film day so lots of thoughts flowing: being in an O that fits and plays to strengths is so important & #MacJones FITS in SF I will always LOVE watching QB being played from UNDER CENTER something nostalgic about it Tampa Bay D does a nice job of bringing four from different places and dropping guys to play zone behind it as a QB gotta recognize the proper coverage keys from backend to get to right place watching QBs make good decisions that gets intercepted never bothers me bc it happens its the ones that feel predetermined by a guy just trying to fit it in that frustrates"

"One thing most ppl dont understand is how hard it is to play QB when you dont have a deep element in your offense The pressure on the QB & how precise & consistent you have to be So many ppl has looked at @PatrickMahomes over the last couple of years and talk how he hasnt played as well when I watch what hes done with teams playing downhill & having to consistently make 10-12 play drives I come away more convinced hes the best QB in the world Just another element that most see and point at the QB as the problem so when I look at it I want to shine a light on how impressive it actually is even"

"I feel like the 1st pass play of the Dolphins game is a microcosm of who they are right now: Tua known for timing and anticipation hesitates to an open Waddle but then gets to him late & throws a perfect ball but Waddle seems to relax thinking if ball is not on time Im not getting it only to bobble and toss up in the air for an easy INT (which of course is all Tuas fault)"

"Had someone ask me yesterday whats the biggest misconception about QB play My answer would be that everything that happens in a game is EXACTLY like it was drawn up on paper/board - so when a QB misses its XXX on him all the time The amount of adjustments mid-play/throw that has to happen is ridiculous A little bump by a defender a little slow by a WR a DL-men in their face a route X yards short or deep press vs off a defender doing something with their movement you have never seen before you actually look at a defender at snap & he does something only to change course as soon as you take"

"This is classically called Stick: in a 3x1 look its a Go-Flat-Stick combo Designed for a CB OFF coverage (when CB is responsible for deep area of field on his side) when you get that its simply a FLAT defender inside-out read If you get a CB Roll & dont have a better option on backside you must see CB 1st & if he carries read OSLBer like others but if he comes off quick to flat you have a quick hole shot option to beat safety like DM does in video Great reads on each one identify CB and be ready on time to whichever of the X your read starts with"

"I respect all the guys out here doing work but tell me what happened here instead of just yelling at QB It was the right read off the coverage Details matter On this play the #2 WR to that side MUST inside release to HOLD OFF the MLB or this play has little chance Vs C3 the corner is dead bc its running to the CB the only chance this play has is off the OSLB to the right side who covers the flat & Tua throws this about as quick as he can They do nothing to slow the MLB down - who is the biggest problem in this play - and then everyone blames TUA There are certain plays where a QB has to trust"

"With a good throw and with the thought ahead of time that you may take that throw yes But I will tell you a hole shot into cover X on that play is not something you really consider most of the time What you are really thinking is the GO will clear out the safety and I will have a High-Low on CB (flat defender) So its as much about IS the GO really an option in the play More of a happening that a QB just sees X time more than its an every time try to throw the GO type option"

"I was fortunate to coach my boys in HS & now one of them has moved on to become an OC Always want to help the be better by sharing things I learned along the way One of the toughest battles when I was coaching (and also shows up when Im analyzing) is basing my response off of the results Its so easy to say you should have done this but too often the answer is they did exactly what they should have done or I coached them to do & for a variety of reasons it didnt work out I always had to step back and not say - look so and so was open you should have seen this or done that - when actually I"

"I feel the unfortunate part of the sports business bc of the pressure & lack of patience from organizations & fan bases is that coaches NOW feel like they have to WIN more than COACH they have to have immediate success OVER developing ppl they have to make quick decisions on players instead of recognizing the good & the need for improvement and being able to take some time to COACH them in those areas to see if they can help them become better Thats why most coaches got into coaching NOW its YOU have to do this better instead of IM going to HELP you get better in this area"
