"In [----] Levy Long and his brother Graham were riding home in their buggy near Newberry Florida when they were waylaid on the road by Samuel Sapp whose sisters were married to both Long brothers. (Side note: I also learned what waylaid meant thanks to this story) Samuel jumped out from behind a tree pointed his gun at them and declared his intent to kill. Graham Long was shot and killed instantly. Levy barely escaped with his life. According to family accounts Samuel was angered by how his two sisters had been treated by the Long brothers whom they had married. What makes the story even more"

"Yesterday I spent the day in eastern North Carolina working with the owners of a small family cemetery surrounded by farmland. 🌾 We cut away years of overgrowth- vines bamboo and young magnolias that had sprouted where one large tree once stood before it fell and damaged several headstones. "This is one of the oldest surviving homes in Dorchester County South Carolina known today as the Koger-Murray-Carroll House. Built sometime in the 1790s or early 1800s (no one knows for sure) records indicate that this Georgian-style home once served as a stagecoach stop along the old Orangeburgh Road which was the main route inland from Charleston. What amazes me most is the craftsmanship. The massive black cypress timbers were harvested right from this property and cut entirely by hand. "✨Its no longer lived in but the owners still look after the property and care deeply for this old house even though theyve decided its too far gone to save. Still Im grateful theyve kept it standing. It offers us a quiet glimpse into the past and a reminder of just how beautifully rural homes were built back in the day. 📍Tennessee"
